Ode to a Mushroom
Oh, to be a fungus
With a shiny red hat
Dew-dropped darling among us
Underground, spreads untracked

Heavy Bones
The loon with her full, heavy bones
Dives into the icy unknown
The things I would give to follow
To sink down to the darkness below
Snowdream
I woke up to snow
A light, tempered dose
The first sugarcoat of the season
Despite what I know
I imagined you close
The powder obscured my good reason

Damselfly
A damselfly with wings so fine
And body silver-blue
So gently stole this heart of mine
When through my life she flew.
Searching
Red-Tailed Hawk atop the tree
You gaze far past the sky;
I wonder what it is you see
With ancient, searching eyes.

Sunburst
I floated through gray clouds for days
Blindly coated in darkening haze
And I started to sink—
But I must now rethink
For the sun has just burst in, unfazed.
One poem written each night from 12/4/12 – 12/9/23.
Happy holidays, my loves!
